What can I do if the desired domain is already taken?

If your desired domain name is already registered, you can type it into a web browser to find out who owns it or at least perform a WHOIS look up to obtain the registrant’s contact information. Is there another good option if the desired domain is already taken and not for sale?

People often want popular domain names, but there are several alternatives available. If the desired domain is already taken and is not available for sale, you can reach for other popular domains in the sector or try to make a strategic choice. The auction domain market includes domains that owners want to resell and expired domains that are not renewed by their rightful registrants. Investor domains are domain names registered or purchased by an entrepreneur with the intent to resell them for profit. Often, these domains are registered or purchased at low prices only to be sold at higher prices later. Investor domains are premium domains that are highly likely to be resold based on their perceived value.

Therefore, some registrars offer their clients Domain Privacy protection services that protect those personal data from unauthorized views.

To see or contact the owner of a domain whose information is protected for privacy reasons, you can still use the domain WHOIS record, as it contains a general address managed by the registrar or privacy service.
